MAHARAJA RANJIT SINGH ACADEMY

Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy for Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (AFPI) was set up in 2011 by the Government of Punjab in Sector 77, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) for training boys for joining the armed forces as commissioned officers through the NDA/ other service academies. The Governing body is the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Punjab.

To apply for AFPI

1. A Candidate must be a resident of Punjab.

2. A Candidate must be appearing for the class X board examination. A Candidate who has already passed Class X and is presently studying in Class 11th can also apply; provided he must meet the age criteria. However, such candidates will be required to repeat Class 11th if selected for AFPI.

3. A Candidate must be physically fit according to the physical standards set by the authority.

4. A candidate must be desirous of joining National Defence Academy.

The academy aims at optimizing a Class 10th aspirant's potential to join National Defence Academy through a structured and integrated curriculum of two years for their permanent commission in the Indian Defence Service immediately on completion of Class 10+2 in the Non-Medical stream.

The cadets complete their two years of training in personality development and leadership qualities at the AFPI along with completing their class XII before being selected for the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla. 

Admission Procedure

Advertisement inviting applications from aspirants publish in all leading newspapers every year in November.

Applications must be submitted online at http://recruitment-portal.in/ beginning in the second half of November each year, with the closing date generally falling sometime after December 15.

AFPI written entrance test is conducted in January every year.

The top 151 aspirants—occasionally more—who pass the entrance exam are invited for an interview in January or February, followed by a medical examination. However, a corrigendum may be issued if the interview is rescheduled according to the academy’s preferred month.

Merit list is prepared; based on the aspirant's overall performance in the written test cum interview.

Call letters are issued to the first 48 to 50 candidates as per the order of merit once the final merit list gets prepared and are informed to join the academy in April.

Important Instructions for Candidates 

A Candidate studying in any of the boards i.e. CBSE/ICSE/PSEB may appear in the entrance test.

During the interview, a candidate is required to bring along his Date of Birth Certificate, Residence Certificate, Certificate of proficiency in sports if any, and Certificate from the school showing marks obtained in 9th class and 10th class marks obtained so far. 

A candidate must not be more than 17 years. Stipulation of the cut-off date of birth is published in newspaper advertisements every year.
